DESCRIPTION
The Sony Alpha A7R VI Mirrorless Camera Body is designed for professional photographers and filmmakers who demand extreme detail, dynamic range, and performance. Built around a high-resolution full-frame sensor, it delivers exceptional image clarity, advanced autofocus tracking, and powerful processing for both stills and video. With support for high-resolution video capture, improved stabilization, and refined ergonomics, the A7R VI is engineered for studio work, landscape photography, portraits, and high-end content creation where precision matters most.
Exmor RS BSI Sensor and BIONZ XR2 Processor
66.8MP Full-Frame Fully Stacked CMOS Sensor
The Sony Alpha A7 R 6 features the newly developed 66.8MP Exmor RS BSI sensor. This is the highest resolution full-frame, fully stacked sensor available, this is also the highest resolution sensor in a7 series camera to date. AI-based processing provides advanced intelligent AF, AE, and AWB functions. It also contributes to achieving a rich image quality with high clarity, low shadow noise, and a wider 16-stop dynamic range.
Impressive rendering is produced that is suitable for HDR applications, and a copper wiring layer dramatically improves data transmission speeds for 14-bit , high-resolution 66.8MP stills with a native sensitivity range from ISO 100-32000, which can be further expanded to ISO 50-102400.
Upgraded Processing and Continuous Shooting
Working alongside the Exmor RS BSI sensor, the BIONZ XR2 processing engine with an integrated AI processing unit achieves more efficient performance. This results in faster shooting speeds, impressive image quality with wide sensitivity and dynamic ranges. Along with more fluent processing that's capable of handling your large AI tasks.
This processing system also reduces rolling shutter and other motion distortions for clean rendering of moving subjects.
Pre-Capture and Speed Boost
To benefit sports and wildlife applications, the Sony Alpha A7R VI Mirrorless Camera, for the first time in a a7R body, you will find action-specific modes.
Pre-Capture: When the shutter button is half pressed, the camera will start recording images at 30 fps with AF/AE to the buffer, then saves to the memory card once full pressed.
Speed Boost: Using a pre-assigned button, you can instantly switch to the Speed Boost Mode to instantly switch to a faster shooting mode to make sure you do not miss a shot.
Improved 8.5-Stop IBIS
In the A 7R VI you will also find an upgraded in-body stabilisation (IBIS) system now supporting a reduction of up to 8.5 stops of camera shake when shooting handheld. This 5-axis stabilisation system combines a high-performance gyro sensor with an optimised algorithm providing more precise control and improved communication between the camera and lens.
Pixel Shift Multi Shooting
The Sony Alpha A7R VI Mirrorless Camera features the unique composing mode that allows you to achieve greater resolution than the 66.8MP sensor affords. It works with sensor-shift image stabilisation. This shifts the sensor while making 4 or 15 consecutive exposures in order to acquire approximately 265.8mp.
Advanced Focus and Real-time Recognition AF+
AI Processing Unit
Employing the BIONZ XR2 processor with a dedicated AI processing unit built-in you will find improved precision and subject recognition. The newly developed Real-Time Recognition AF+ offers more stable and reliable performance, especially with distant subjects and changing types. Seven selectable target types include:
Human: tracks the body and head positions, human pose estimation has been improved with Real-Time Eye AF+.
Animal, Bird, and Animal/Bird modes recognise animals from dogs, cats, birds and more that pinpoint and focus on eyes and recognise bodies and heads. Insect recognition offers even finer performance to detect the head of an entire insect subject. Car/Train and Aeroplane recognition focuses on the front of a train and the nose of an aeroplane, and then focuses on the entire subject.
Advanced Fast Hybrid AF
The Sony Alpha A7R VI Mirrorless Camera features a Fast Hybrid AF system that covers 94% of the full-frame image area, and 100% of the APS-C area, a Fast Hybrid AF system incorporates a dense 759 phase-detection point grid for quick and precise focusing in a variety of lighting conditions with sensitivity down to -6 EV. This focusing system is available for use in all recording modes to benefit both video and stills applications.
Full-Time Direct Manual Focus, enables you to use your lens's manual focus ring to adjust focus to different subjects in the scene, even when using autofocus.
For photographing moving subjects, this AF system keeps up with the top 30 fps continuous shooting speeds, offering full-time AF tracking between each consecutive frame at a maximum rate of 60 AF/AE calculations per second.
AF During Video Recording
You will have full real-time Eye AF support during video recording for subject detection and tracking of human, animal and bird eyes while shooting.
Focus Map allows you to visualise depth of field, and functions in a similar way to peaking, with a colourful overlay indicating what is in front and behind the focus point in the frame. AF Assist, brought over from Sony's cine line allows you to intuitively switch to manual focus to position focus points when working with AF. This is useful when you need to shift focus to different subjects in the scene when recording.
Video Recording
Improved filmmaking capabilities make this camera more of an all-around hybrid workhorse.
Recording formats include 10-bit, full-frame 8K 30/24p via 8.2K oversampling and 4K 120p via 5K oversampling with full pixel readout. When using a Super 35 recording area, 4K 60p footage can use 6.3K oversampling for improved detail or 4K 120 high-speed recording is possible when using 4.6K oversampling.
AI subject recognition brought from the AI processing unit enables the Frsming Stabiliser mode to automatically crop and recompose the frame to keep your subject centre in the shot. When shooting while walking or moving, Dynamic Active Mode Stabilisation assist in maintaining accurate framing.
Included S-Cinetone profile, S-Log2/3 gamma curves, ProRes RAW output over HDMI, and the ability to import LUTs offer a great amount of colour control for different recording needs.
Dual Gain Function
You will find the new Dual Gain function useful, which specifically assists in minimising noise without affecting shadow detail. This results in video with the smoothest tonal gradation and a wider perceived dynamic range.
This is limited to frame rates to 30p, and resolution to 4K, and ISO to 400. When shooting in S-Log3 an ISO range of 200-3200 is available to use. Due to the reduced readout speeds, this function is best suited for more static subjects such as landscapes and interiors.
Audio
Integrated into the Sony A7RVI, you will find a noise reference microphone to aid background noise reduction when using the on-board microphone or an external microphone.
On top of the EVF, you will find a Multi Interface Shoe with a digital interface supporting recording 4-channel 24-bit audio with compatible external microphones attached.
Body Design and Connectivity
9.44m-Dot EVF and 4-Axis Multi-Angle LCD
At the rear of the Sony Alpha A 7 R VI, you will find a QXGA OLED Tru-Finder EVF featuring a 9.44m-Dot EVF providing 0.9x magnification for clear and detailed eye-level viewing. It is approximately 3x brighter than the predecessor for improved accuracy and colour reproduction. Then the 4-axis multi-angle LCD touchscreen features a 3.2" 2.1m-dot design and a DCI-P3 wide gamut for accurate colour rendering.
Durability, Weather Sealing
Featuring a magnesium alloy chassis for added durability and rigidity while remaining lightweight. The lens mount has also been redesigned for better support for heavier lenses. Across the entire body yoy will find extensive weather-sealing, this include the battery cover and chassis joints. This is to add resistance to moisture, dust and inclement weather conditions.
Ports and Interface
For a more reliable connection when working with external monitors, you will find a full-size HDMI A port. Dual USB-C ports offer greater versatility and the ability to simultaneously power the camera or charge the battery. You can also transfer data to external devices.
On the camera body, you will also find a PC sync terminal for wired flash sync with strobe packs or wireless radio remotes. You will find two 3.5mm headphone jacks and external microphone pots facilitate greater control over audio recording and monitoring.
Connectivity
The Sony Alpha A7R VI Mirrorless Camera Body features built-in Wi-Fi 6, enabling instant sharing of images for direct sharing online. This supports both 5 and 6 GHz bands, along with 2x2 MIMO, providing a strong and reliable connection to enable fast transfers, remote control, and wireless tethered shooting. For location data acquisition, you can make use of the built-in Bluetooth.
4K livestreaming supports a wired or wireless connection and is UVC/UAC compliant for simple operation.
