Canon EOS C50 Digital Cinema Camera Body
DESCRIPTION
7K Full-Frame CMOS Sensor
The Canon EOS C50 Digital Cinema Camera features a 7K back-illuminated full-frame CMOS sensor backed by an advanced DIGIC DV 7 processor to produce outstanding image quality for both still and video applications.
This combination maximises the camera's full 15+ stop dynamic range in full-frame sensor mode.
Using 7K resolution provides greater flexibility in post, such as oversampled 4K60 footage.
3:2 Open Gate Sensor Mode
The first C EOS camera offering open gate recording, where the full sensor area is used for maximum resolution and flexibility. This also provides you with a larger image by using the full circle of a full-frame lens, providing more flexibility in post-production. Horizontal and vertical movie formats can be edited from the same footage.
Internal Raw and High Frame Rate Recording
The Canon EOS C50 Digital Cinema Camera features additional recording options, including 7K60 Cinema RAW Light with three 12-bit recording modes in HQ, ST, and LT. Standard XF-AVC codec is available in 10-bit 4:2:2 for rich detail and smooth images at frame rates up to 120 fps without cropping.
Fast or slow motion can also be recorded up to 4K120 and 2K180. Other recording options include XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S.
Anamorphic De-Squeeze
Featuring internal support for anamorphic de-squeeze. Preview your footage more accurately when shooting in different magnification ratios by toggling the de-squeeze options in the camera menu, these include: 2x, 1.8x, 1.5x, 1.3x.
Dual-Base ISO
Base ISOs of 800 and 6400 in Canon Log 2 gamma recording mode maximise the full dynamic range of the sensor.
The C 50 additionally features Auto Selection to automatically toggle between one of the two base ISO levels while maintaining dynamic range.
Dual-Pixel CMOS AF II
The Canon EOS C 50 Digital Cinema Camera takes full advantage of the Canon Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, accommodating speeds up to 4K120 and 2K150, ideal for both still and video applications, offering high-speed and accurate subject detection and tracking. Precision tracking extends to the ability to prioritise which eye to focus on in humans, dogs, cats and birds.
Simultaneous Crop Recording
The Canon EOS C 50 Digital Cinema Camera offer the option to choose between three format options (9:17, 9:16, or 1:1), which automatically crops to image when shooting in DCI or UHD 4K resolutions.
All of the above reduce turnaround time when formatting videos for social media deliverables.
Dual Card Slots
You will find two different card slots, one CFexpress Type B and one SD card slot. Both these slots allow for simultaneous recording, even when shooting in RAW codecs.
All recording options are stored to the inserted CFexpress B card, while sub-recording and proxy options are stored to the SD card slot.
Native Vertical Shooting UI
The Canon EOS C50 Digital Cinema Camera features vertical shooting UI, which makes vertical shooting more intuitive. Simply switch to native Vertical Shooting to flip your display accordingly. All your shooting UI, menu settings, and LCD brightness adjustments are reoriented for an optimised filming experience.
Detachable Handle Unit
For improved control and comfort while in use, you will find a detachable handle unit featuring two full-sized 3-pin XLR audio terminals with 48V phantom power to allow shotgun microphones. Control dials for professional-quality audio recording. Furthermore, you will find a REC button and zoom rocker for a more convenient, compact-style control during fast-paced shoots.
Comprehensive Connectivity
You can easily create a camera rig best suited to your production needs, the body features a variety of ports to create a camera rig.
Connections include an HDMI output, a headphone output, a timecode port, a 3.5mm microphone input, a 2.5mm remote port, and a multipurpose USB-C port for a smartphone or Ethernet adapter. The camera also features an intelligent hot shoe for wireless audio communication.
Frame.io Camera-to-Cloud Integration
The C50 has native compatibility with Frame.io's Camera-to-Cloud technology. For efficient post-production workflows, the proxy files are sent immediately after internal recording.
These proxy files do not require additional processing or conversion and can be viewed, shared, and edited immediately.
Virtual Production Support
You are able to easily slot your Canon EOS C 50 Digital Cinema Camera into any virtual production with output CV Protocol to multiple devices. Lens metadata is extracted using the CV Metadata Extraction plugin on compatible computers.
Mirrorless Photo Mode
The Canon EOS C50 Digital Cinema Camera can be switched from a cinema camera to a full-featured mirrorless camera at the flip of a switch. Here, the C 50 borrows the familiar menu system found on the Canon EOS R cameras.
The full-frame sensor offers a shallow depth of field with added pleasant bokeh using a standard ISO of up to 64,000 to deliver still resolution reaching up to 32MP. In still mode, you can reach up to 40 shots per second in continuous shooting.
