DESCRIPTION
New Partially Stacked Sensor and Upgraded Processing
33MP Exmor RS CMOS Full-Frame Sensor
The Sony Alpha A7 V Mirrorless Camera is the first Sony camera that features a partially stacked sensor. The 33MP Exmor RS CMOS sensor provides faster readout speeds along with reduced rolling shutter compared to the predecessor.
This new sensor, along with a new BIONZ XR2 Processor, enables some flagship features, including a more advanced subject tracking and recognition system. Also, faster continuous shooting performance and improved image quality with 16 stops of dynamic range. The sensor offers a native ISO range of 100-51200, and the partially stacked design also contributes to a faster 1/16,000-sec top electronic shutter speed.
BIONZ XR2 Processor
The Sony a7v features a new BIONZ XR2 processor along with an AI unit for enhanced autofocus for better colour accuracy and better auto white balance consistency from frame to frame. This is another contributor to the increased overall performance.
Additionally, this enables blackout-free 30 fps continuous shooting, with full-time AF and AE, as well as 7K-oversampled 4K60p video recording and high-speed 4K 120p recording using a S35 area.
Selectable Raw File Types and Composite RAW Function
The Sony Alpha A7 V Mirrorless Camera features a partially stacked sensor and improved processing. It also permits more flexibility when working with raw files:
Compressed HQ raw, lossless compressed raw, and a new lightweight raw format are available, this is to suit different priorities. This ranges from ultimate quality and editing flexibility, right through to more efficient files that prioritise saving on available storage space.
Extended raw file processing is possible via the Imaging Edge desktop app.
The Composite RAW function allows you to capture and composite on your computer 4, 8, or 16 sequential files, taken at 30 fps, to produce HDR images with reduced noise, especially at higher ISO values.
5-Axis Image Stabilisation
The built-in 5-axis in-body image stabilisation system (IBIS) compensates for up to 7.5 stops of camera shake at the middle of the frame and 6.5 stops at the periphery.
This 5-axis stabilisation system uses a high-performance gyro sensor and an optimised algorithm for a more accurate shake control, along with improved communication between the camera body and lens.
Upgraded AF and AI Subject Recognition
Borrowed from top-end Sony cameras, the A7 Mark 5 now sports a dedicated AI Processing Unit for refined, responsive, and intelligent subject tracking. It further responds faster than the predecessor in identifying and tracking animals, birds, insects, cars, trains and aeroplanes.
Human Pose Estimation mode tracks human body and head positions, along with these real-time Eye AF performance refines all these and focuses on recognised eyes.
Human pose estimation will keep focus on a specific person, even with multiple persons in the frame, even if someone crosses the person in focus. For sports and action subjects, Real-Time Tracking benefited from the AI-based subject recognition for following fast-moving subjects.
XS and XL focus area spot sizes have been added for more versatility, or you can customise AF focus areas to suit uniquely sized and shaped subjects. Full-time DMF (Direct Manual Focus) enables using the lens's focus ring for manual focus control at any time, making it easier to switch focus to a different subject even when working with AF.
Video Recording
7K Oversampled 4K Recording
The Sony Alpha A7 V Mirrorless Camera, while making use of the high-resolution sensor, is capable of recording UHD 4K60p XAVC HS 10-bit using the full width of the sensor, offering 7K full pixel readout for impressive sharpness and realism. If using a Super 35 crop, high-speed recording is possible at up to UHD 4K 120p or FHD 240p for slow-motion playback.
Recording Flexibility
The Sony Alpha A7 V Mirrorless Camera Body offers you the ability to perform extended recording times, thanks to a unique Sigma-shaped graphite heatsink built into the stabilisation unit, which improves thermal consistency.
In terms of audio recording, internal 24-bit recording and up to 4-channel audio with compatible external microphones.
When using the internal microphone, there is a new audio reference mic aids in terms of noise reduction, and there is a selectable wind-noise reduction control when working with the internal microphone.
Dynamic Active stabilisation adds substantial electronic correction on top of IBIS for steadier footage while running, walking, or recording handheld tracking shots.
When using select lenses, the A7 5 offers support for the Breathing Compensation mode. This reduces the effects of focus breathing.
Advanced Colour Control
S-Cinetone delivers distinct colours and a healthy-looking skin tone rendering that closely matches many FX-series and a-series cameras and is based on technology from the professional Conema cameras series from Sony. S-Cinetone offers natural mid-tones, soft colours, and especially well-controlled highlights.
S-Log3 is also available for producing a 15+-stop dynamic range with increased grading control in the shadow to mid-tone regions of the image. Users can also import LUTs via Creators' Cloud for accurate monitoring while recording.
Body Design and Connectivity
3.68m-Dot EVF and 4-Axis Multi-Angle LCD
A 4-Axis Mult-iAngle LCD with a more functional design will be found on the rear of the A7 Mark 5. With a 4-axis multi-angle design, you get the best of both a tilt and side opening for vari angles. For accurate colour monitoring, the LCD features a DCI-P3 wide gamut, along with the LCD being touchscreen.
An impressive Quad VGA OLED EVF features a 3.68m-dot resolution and 0.78x magnification for bright, clear, and detailed eye-level viewing.
Ports and Interface
When external recorders are used, the Sony A7V features a single full-size HDMI A port. You will also find dual USB-C ports, which allow for simultaneous power to the camera or charging the battery, the second one can be used to transfer data to an external storage device.
Along with the HDMI and dual USB-C ports, you will also find two 3.5mm ports, one for headphones for accurate audio monitoring, while the other port allows for an external microphone to be used.
Versatile and Durable Design
For flexible saving and handling, you will find a dual card slot design with space for both a CFexpress Type A/SD UHS-II dual slot, as well as an additional SD UHS-II card slot. Your a7 V is powered by an NP-FZ100 battery that will provide up to 630 shots per charge when using the EVF, and about 750 shots when the LCD is used.
The magnesium alloy chassis assures rigidity, durability and stability while still maintaining a lightweight form factor. On the front of the camera body, you will find an improved grip rigidity for more comfortable handling, and the lens mount has also been improved to better handle heavier lenses.
Extensive weather-sealing, including enhanced sealing around the battery cover, terminal cover, and chassis joints, has been employed to resist dust and moisture for reliable operation in harsh weather conditions.
Connectivity
The Sony Alpha A7 V Mirrorless Camera Body allows for direct sharing online. This is by instant sharing to a mobile device via built-in Wi-Fi and NFC. Bluetooth connectivity allows for location data acquisition.
The A 7V is UVC/UAC compliant and supports 4K webcam use. Imaging Edge Remote for desktop supports PC Remote shooting via the Wi-Fi connection or tethered by the wired USB-C port. An updated data transfer control also makes it possible to transfer files from an SD card over Wi-Fi using the Imaging Edge Mobile app, even when the camera is powered off.
