FX format

The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR is full frame (FX format) lens, and can be mounted on Nikon professional bodies or cropped sensor (DX) bodies. When the lens is mounted on a DX crop camera the focal length gets boosted to 750mm (35mm equivalent).

One Phase Fresnel element and three ED glass elements plus Nano Crystal Coat

With one Phase Fresnel element and three ED lens elements, to effectively reduce unnecessary chromatic aberrations and colour fringing, which improves on image quality as you'll get much better sharpness, clarity and colour fidelity, and also reduces the weight of the lens down to 1460 g.

Nano Crystal Coat is an antireflective coating that virtually eliminates internal lens element reflections to effectively reduce ghosting and flares.

4 Stop Vibration Reduction (VR) with SPORT mode

The Vibration Reduction (VR) system in the 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR reduces camera shake/movements to decrease blur. The VR system is rated at a 4 stop equivalent and enables users to shoot shutter speeds at up to 16 times slower than non-VR/IS lenses, and still get sharp and blur free images.

Sport mode limits vibration reduction to the minimum needed for subjects that are moving quickly and unpredictably. The viewfinder offers a more stable image when the camera is mounted on a monopod. Even when the camera is hand-held, the image in the viewfinder remains as stable and smooth as if the camera were on a monopod, making it easier to track the subject when the camera is panned during high-speed burst shooting. Frame rate and shutter response are unaffected.

Electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism

An electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism is incorporated into the lens to enable stable and reliable auto-exposure (AE) with high-speed continuous shooting.

Silent Wave Motor

All AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon's SWM which enables high-speed autofocusing that's both extremely accurate, and super quiet.

Internal Focusing (IF)

All optical movement is limited to the interior of the non-extending lens barrel. This allows for a more compact, lightweight construction with a closer focusing distance, and makes using tinted/polarised filters a breeze.

Removable monopod/tripod collar

A removable monopod collar is included with the lens for a well-balanced and secure support when shooting from a monopod or tripod. The collar ring also utilises ball bearings to smooth transitions between horizontal and vertical shooting.

Compatible with a range of teleconverters:

Teleconverters multiplies the focal length of lenses to achieve a greater reach. The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR is compatible with the following tele-converters: TC-14, TC-17, and TC-20

If the item has been pre-ordered for you, this can take anything from 4 - 8 weeks.
